This is a light-hearted, delightful production which focused upon, just as the title indicates, what all women are, have, or will be going throughmenopause. The opening scene was not strong and the introductory scene and the meeting of the four main characters is weak, but hang in there, it gets much better. It’s a great way to spend the evening with your women friends, sisters, mother, and yes, your spouse too!! All those who love women and what we go through will find a way to laugh at this cute and light parody of the travails of womanhood.
The songs were lyrical spoofs of well-known tunes from the past. The actors were talented and each an amusing example of many women we know. In the performance in Orlando, Florida, Sandy DeWoody played the Iowa housewife. Sandy held the audience with her amazing stage presence both physically and with her animated facial expressions. Playing the power woman was, Nadeen Holloway, a singer whose voice was commanding and compelling. (And just wait until you see her Tina Turner imitation!)
Although the play was 90 minutes long, it might have been a more successful production if some of the songs that were a little ineffective were cut; thus, strengthening the show. However, overall, this musical is a fun and laughable look at the plight and delight of women as they (we) change and “Laugh out Loud”.
